Gerald Lucas
Biography
Gerald Lucas is a real estate investor, author, coach and professional speaker. Gerald is the author of Short Sale Specifics: An Easy-to-Read Homeowner’s Guide to Short Sales, which draws from his experience successfully negotiating hundreds of real estate short sales. A landlord and condominium developer, Gerald has owned and managed properties that range in size from condos and single-family homes to big apartment complexes.
Always eager to pass his knowledge and experience on to others, Gerald has coached hundreds of students throughout the United States and Canada on how to invest in real estate. A former college professor, Gerald designed, developed and taught the small business certificate program at Hudson Community College in his hometown.
In 2011, Gerald partnered with an Australian pension fund to form a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Together they raised over $100 million to invest in residential property. Gerald developed the REIT’s entire investment strategy, handpicked the REIT’s initial team of professionals (attorneys, title company, property manager and leasing director), and oversaw the first $20 million of all property acquisitions.
Gerald is currently Managing Director of Performance Property, LLC, in Jersey City, New Jersey, and is a licensed Realtor. Gerald holds business degrees from Howard University as well as MIT’s Sloan School of Management. Gerald is a longtime musician and singer-songwriter who regularly performs in the New york City metropolitan area. Gerald actively supports Big Brothers Big Sisters as well as Project Homeless Connect.
