Biography

David Altenbern was born in Freeport, Illinois. He graduated from Palatine High School outside of Chicago, Illinois in 1974. He then graduated from Michigan State University with a Criminal Justice, B.A. degree in 1978, followed by graduating from the University of Texas School of Law with a J.D. degree in 1982.
During a summer while in law school, David then graduated from the U. S. Navy Officers School in Newport, Rhode Island. David was also recognized into the “Order of Barristers” in law school (a top 10 advocate out of a graduating class of 500).

David then started his law practice in 1982 with the Anchorage, Alaska law firm of Bankston & McCollum, becoming a partner of the firm in four years in 1986. David, however, then decided to return to Houston, Texas where he was with the law firm of Morris & Campbell for two years before starting his own law firm in 1988.

David has been recognized by his peers and H-Texas Magazine as one of the “Top Lawyers for The People”, “Personal Injury and Family Law-2003 forward” and “Top Lawyers” (all categories of law-2005 forward), as well as being the first “Ask the Expert” in Personal Injury Law, by the first ever Lawyers of Houston legal directory in 2011 (Publisher-Mylo Media). Throughout his legal career, David has focused his law practice in the fields of Personal Injury, Family Law, and Business Law.

David has been a member of the American Association of Justice (AAJ), the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA), and the Houston Trial Lawyers Association (HTLA) and the Houston Bar Association (HBA). He is also rated in the top category of “Excellent” by AVVO, a national attorney rating organization.

David is involved in his local community by serving as an elder to Memorial Lutheran Church, an Ambassador to the Houston West Region and President of his West Memorial Chapter of BNI (Business Network International), President of his gated neighborhood Crestwater Homeowner’s Association, a member of the Christian Business Fellowship Association (CBFA), a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and a member of the Board of Directors of Joe Joe Bear Foundation (a nonprofit organization that provides teddy bears to children in hospitals who suffer from cancer or other terminal illnesses). David has also helped organize a few golf tournaments over the years.

David’s personal interests are watching college and pro sports, playing golf, playing Texas Holdem poker tournaments, watching Survivor, watching movies and all types of travel, especially taking cruises.

David has been married twenty years to his wife and legal assistant Linda, with six children and ten grandchildren between them. David and Linda met in Houston, Texas twenty-five years ago when they worked for different law firms. They have travelled throughout Mexico and the Caribbean, and lived for one year in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands after the untimely death of daughter Christi.
